14th Street Bridge “Island of Construction ” Moving This Week

New 14th Street Bridge construction beginning on I-395.

I-395 drivers, watch out for yet another new traffic pattern going northbound.

The D.C. Department of Transportation is beginning Phase 7 of the 14th Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project this week. It will close about half of the right center lane on the north end of the bridge. Just like in Phase 6, there will be an island of construction that drivers will need to navigate around.

Lanes will be split and traffic will be routed on both sides of the construction barriers. In this phase, two lane will get by on the left and another two will get by on the right.

The construction island will reduce the distance drivers have to merge on the bridge and to get to their exits.

DDOT said crews will begin staging for Phase 7 Wednesday at 10 p.m. The left center lane will be closed until 5 a.m. Thursday.
