1 Dead In Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash on Beltway

    A fiery tractor-trailer crash on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County left one man dead and injured another, and lanes of the highway remain closed, according to authorities.

    All but one lane of the Inner Loop were open as of 8 a.m.

    A fatal crash and fire involving a truck and at least one car has traffic backed up on the Inner Loop of the Beltway at the Darcy Road overpass. News4's Tracee Wilkins is on the scene and sends us this close up look at the damage to the overpass.

    Police said the tractor-trailer struck several cars and then slammed into a bridge embankment of the D'Arcy Road overpass in Forestville, Md., and caught fire at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. The driver of the tractor-trailer was trapped inside the cab of the truck and died.

    Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said paramedics also treated at least one injured person.

    The tractor trailer struck a bridge embankment of the Darcy Road Beltway overpass. Portions of the underside of the bridge may have been damaged by the fire and crash. Beltway traffic will be affected while the crash is being cleared up and the overpass is checked.

    D'Arcy Road was closed in the area until engineers could test the structure of the bridge.  It reopened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

    A person driving on the Inner Loop just after the crash took video and posted it on Tumblr.  You can watch it here, but be warned of extremely graphic language.
