There are some sobering new statistics regarding alcohol consumption in America.

One in six U.S adults is a binge drinker, according to a 2010 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It reveals nearly 40 million Americans binge drink four times a month.

For women, that’s four or more consecutive drinks in a short period of time. For men, it’s five or more.

Binge drinking accounts for more than half of the estimated 80,000 deaths a year from excessive drinking.

Binge drinking is most commonly abused by those ranging in age from 18 to 34. However, the frequency was higher among those older than 65.
