Some Isolated Storms and Showers May Linger Tonight

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the region Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, lightning, and the potential for hail and flooding.

After widespread severe thunderstorms in the afternoon, some isolated showers and storms may pop up tonight.

A roof collapsed at a Home Goods store on Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg, Maryland, during the storms. Fire officials say it was likely due to water accumulating on the roof.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service also responded to a report of a driver stranded in high water during the storms.

Overnight skies will mostly be clear with lows in the 60s and 70s in D.C.

The stormy weather comes with some good news: In the wake of a cold front Thursday, it will be less humid, and storms will be far less likely. Temperatures will still get to around 90 degrees, but without the humidity, it will be a nice summer day.

Another cold front on Friday could lower the humidity level even further.

Dreaming of the weekend? Saturday and Sunday are looking dry.
