It's the day before Thanksgiving, but for one local Red Cross chapter, it's the equivalent to Christmas Eve.
"Unless 40 generous folks step up by 2 p.m. Wednesday, dozens of needy youngsters won't get sponsored through a local Letters to Santa program," Fredericksburg.com reports.
Individuals and organizations have already vowed to answer the holiday wishes of nearly 600 children whose families applied to the Red Cross program, but there are still about 40 remaining.

Those who "adopt" a needy child will have until Saturday, Dec. 8 to shop and submit gifts.
Staffers will shop for those children who aren't selected starting on Black Friday. Because of that, the group wilhey note that because of that, there’s a need for monetary donations to help buy gifts for any children not sponsored," Fredericksburg.com reports.
