Oy Gay: Speed-Dating With a Side of Queer Camp

"You Had Me at Shalom" caters to the GLBT community.

Jewish, single and gay? (What a question to open with, huh?) The DC Jewish Community Center (1528 16th St. N.W.) is holding You Had Me at Shalom -- an evening of same-sex speed-dating -- on Jan. 31, and today is the registration deadline. Tix are $27 (reduced price is $18 if you're all recession'ed-out) and it will buy you six to eight eight-minute dates. The event is open to Jews and "Jews in spirit." (We're not quite sure what that means but we do like the sound of it.)

In addition to a bunch of awkward, hurried conversations, you'll also get cocktails, kosher appetizers and "entertainment," whatever that might be. We believe there may or may not be pink beehive hairdos involved.

Interested straight or partnered folks are encouraged to volunteer to help their GLBT brethren/sistren find true wuv. Rumor has it that the straight volunteers can get (almost) as lucky as the speed-daters themselves.

Basically, if you've always longed to be judged solely on first impressions and identified by a number, this event is for you.

Register here.
