The new year brought a few new laws to the D.C. area. Although July 1 and Oct. 1 are generally the big dates for new laws going into effect, here are a few you’ll want to know about whether you live in D.C., Maryland or Virginia.

Starting Jan. 1, Maryland is enacting a new law targeting speeding in highway work zones. News4’s Darcy Spencer reports.

New laws in D.C., Maryland and Virginia will change how much people are getting paid and how much resellers can charge for tickets.  

Here’s a list of new laws going into effect on July 1 in the D.C. area. 

As of Jan. 1, plastic bags are banned in Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County, and the city of Frederick. And in Prince George’s County, paper bags are now 10 cents each. News4’s Aimee Cho reports.

People who work for minimum wage in Maryland are about to get more in their paychecks. The state minimum wage will rise from $13.25 to $15 per hour starting Jan. 1. News4’s Darcy Spencer reports.
