Zach Fucale's Miraculous Dive Named NHL's Save of the Week

Fucale’s miraculous dive named NHL’s Save of the Week originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

In case you missed it, Capitals rookie goaltender Zach Fucale made one of the best saves of the Capitals season this week during overtime in a loss to the Minnesota Wild. That save has been recognized by the NHL as the No. 1 save of the week across the league.

Fucale’s miracle save against the Wild’s 2-on-1 opportunity kept the game going for Washington, though they would eventually lose in a shootout.

Fucale bested some impressive names on the ranking, including Columbus’ Joonas Korpisalo and Pittsburgh’s Tristan Jarry. Another save from the Caps-Wild game came in at No. 8 on the list, as Minnesota’s Kaapo Kahkonen’s stonewall on Lars Eller was also recognized. Here’s the full video list:

Fucale's save against the Wild wasn’t enough to keep him on the roster long-term. He allowed four goals vs. Boston in the very next game and was then reassigned to the AHL affiliate Hershey Bears the next day. Fucale could very well be called back up to Washington this season, should Vitek Vanecek or Ilya Samsonov miss time.
