Who is reported WFT GM candidate Ryan Cowden? originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

With the offseason for the Washington Football Team here, one of the biggest storylines will be the team's hunt for a general manager.

In the coming weeks, the team will interview candidates to see who is the best fit to help the organization build off a successful 2020 season. One potential candidate is Tennessee Titans Vice President of Player Personnel Ryan Cowden, as NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay reported the team has requested an interview.

Cowden features two-plus decades of NFL experience and a connection to Ron Rivera. Here's everything to know about the potential candidate.

Work History

Carolina Panthers (2000-2015)

Cowden began his career in the NFL as a scouting assistant with the Panthers in 2000. He quickly advanced to an area scout and would end up patrolling the southeast scouting area for the team from 2001-2007. Cowden also worked as a national scout, National Scout/Senior College Scout and then Assistant Director of College Scouting to round out his time in Carolina.

During his time working with the team, the Panthers earned five division titles, six playoff appearances and two Super Bowl appearances.

Tennessee Titans (2016-Present)

Cowden joined the Titans as the Director of Player Personnel in 2016 and advanced to Vice President of Player Personnel in 2018, holding that role ever since.

Cowden has his hands within all of the franchise's personnel decisions, working on everything from scouting to the NFL Draft to free agency. He's helped turn the Titans into a consistent contender, with playoff berths the last two seasons and a trip to the AFC Championship in 2019.

How Ryan Cowden would fit with Washington

Cowden has two main things working for him. The first is over two decades of NFL experience, something that Ron Rivera is looking for in his general manager. Working in numerous areas, it's clear that Cowden can handle all parts of the job and has a deep understanding of what it takes to build a winning team and culture.

The second is that Cowden has a direct connection to Rivera. The two worked together from 2011 to 2015, and with Rivera bringing over multiple members of his staff in Carolina, Cowden has a familiarity with Rivera and other personnel.
