With the coronavirus pandemic preventing many organizations from holding annual Thanksgiving events, the Washington Nationals have found a way to keep a local tradition going.

The Nats have partnered with Medium Rare Restaurants to host their 12th annual Turkey Fry at Nationals Park.

Each year the event allows families to fry their own turkey in safe environment without the risks of doing it at home. Social distancing and occupancy guidelines prevent the restaurant from doing at one of Medium Rare's locations.

"Partnering with Medium Rare on their annual Turkey Fry is another new way in which we are activating Nationals Park as a civic asset during these difficult times,” Nationals vice president Jonathan Stahl said in a release. “Medium Rare’s commitment to the DMV community is impressive and we are proud to help enable them to fulfill this long-standing local Thanksgiving tradition.”

There is no cost for individuals to fry a turkey; however, participants are encouraged to donate up to $25 per turkey. The proceeds will go to Bucher’s “Feed the Fridge” initiative, which places refrigerators stocked with free and fresh meals across the DMV to help students and others facing food insecurity.

The event will be held on the Center Field concourse starting at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Reservations will be first-come, first-serve with a limited number of walkups allowed. Those interested in frying a turkey at the Turkey Fry should reserve a time slot here
