Vandy's Sarah Fuller becomes first woman to play Power 5 game originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller made history Saturday, becoming the first woman to ever play in a Power 5 college football game.

The moment came on the Commodores’ opening kickoff of the second half against Southeastern Conference foe Missouri.

Vandy was unable to score in the first half, trailing 21-0 and failing to give Fuller a chance to hit the field in the first two quarters. If Vanderbilt is able to score a touchdown or get the ball within her field goal range, Fuller can become the first woman to score points in a Power 5 game.

Fuller is the third woman to play in an FBS game, joining New Mexico’s Katie Hnida and Kent State’s April Goss. In 2003, Hnida made two extra points to became the first woman to score in an FBS game. Ashley Martin of FCS school Jacksonville State was the first woman to score at the Div. I level, when she kicked three extra points in 2001.
