Brooks named Eastern Conference coach of the month originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
After his team posted a 12-5 record in April, Wizards head coach Scott Brooks has been named the Eastern Conference coach of the month, the sixth time in his career he has won the award.

This is the first time Brooks has won the award with the Wizards since February of 2018. He has won it three times total with the Wizards, tying the three times he won it during his time in the Western Conference with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brooks was also the NBA's coach of the year for the 2009-10 season.
The Wizards' 12 wins in April included victories over the Jazz, Lakers and Warriors (twice). They won eight straight games from April 12 to 25, the longest winning streak for the franchise since 2001, a span of 20 years.
Through that stretch, Washington vaulted up the standings and into the playoff picture. They finished the month in the 10th and final play-in spot for the league's inaugural play-in tournament.
Brooks, 55, is in his fifth season coaching the Wizards. This year has been more trying than the others with season-ending injuries to key players like Thomas Bryant and Deni Avdija, plus a widespread coronavirus outbreak that caused six of their games to be postponed in January.
Brooks guided the Wizards through some difficult times before they took off in April and for that he now has an award to show for it.
