Russell Westbrook to Miss at Least Another Week With Left Quad Injury

Westbrook to miss at least another week with left quad injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Wizards will be without starting point guard Russell Westbrook for at least another week as he continues to deal with a sore left quad. He will then be re-evaluated from there, according to the team.

That means Westbrook is likely to miss at least the next four games. This, of course, comes right after the news starting center Thomas Bryant suffered a partially torn ACL and will be out the remainder of the season.

The injury hits keep coming for the 2-8 Wizards. In Westbrook's case, the team is still categorizing it is a minor issue. They say it's the result of him being hit in the quad several times during games this season.

As long as there is no structural damage, it shouldn't keep him out for an extended period of time. But he's already missed one game and now it seems probable he will miss at least four more.

This is not the same quadriceps injury Westbrook had with the Rockets last year, as that was to his right quad. But that is two quad injuries for the nine-time All-Star in a span of just a few months.

While Westbrook sits, the Wizards will likely continue to start Raul Neto in his place. Ish Smith has remained in the No. 2 point guard role whether Westbrook is in the lineup or not.

Through seven games so far this season, Westbrook is averaging 19.3 points, 11.3 assists and 9.7 rebounds per game. He is shooting just 38.7 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from three. Though he has never been a highly efficient player, perhaps the leg injury is to explain why some of his numbers have dipped so dramatically from last season.
