Report: Wizards Make Spencer Dinwiddie Their ‘Ultimate Target' in Free Agency

Report: Spencer Dinwiddie the Wizards 'ultimate target' in FA originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

On the first evening of free agency, it appears the Wizards have zeroed in on their man to fill the void at point guard: Spencer Dinwiddie, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported.

"Sources tell me Dinwiddie will meet with the Washington Wizards at the outset of free agency," Charania said on Stadium's free agency special. "They have made him an ultimate target early in this free agency process once it begins. Bradley Beal, there's a lot of early interest from Bradley Beal and around that Wizards organization to find a way to get Spencer Dinwiddie, but he has a couple other suitors as well such as New York."

With 6 p.m. Monday being the official start of the NBA's free agency moratorium period when players can verbally agree with teams, deals began rapidly being finalized. With a strong point guard free agency class this offseason, guys like Mike Conley Jr. began reaching agreements while the Pelicans dealt Lonzo Ball to Chicago in a sign-and-trade that included former Wizards Tomas Satoransky and Garrett Temple.

As more teams come to agreements with their preferred free agents, the dominos will quickly fall into place with Sheppard's vision for the Wizards moving forward.

Dinwiddie played in just three games before tearing his ACL this season with the Brooklyn Nets. Without Kevin Durant and James Harden last season, Dinwiddie thrived and produced a career-best season with 20.6 points per game, 6.8 assists per game, and 3.5 rebounds per game in 31.2 minutes per contest.
