Report: Ravens WR Coach David Culley to Be Hired as New Texans Head Coach

Report: Ravens' David Culley to be hired as new Texans head coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Once again this offseason, the Ravens have a spot to fill along their coaching staff.

This time around it's wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator David Culley who is reportedly leaving for a promotion. The 65-year old Culley is headed to Houston to become the Texans' new head coach, their full-time replacement for Bill O'Brien who was fired midseason.

Neither team has announced the move yet, but multiple national reports have Culley prepared to accept the Texans' offer when it comes.

Culley is just the latest member of the Ravens' coaching staff to leave for a promotion this offseason, who have lost several position coaches in recent weeks but did manage to keep both offensive coordinator Greg Roman and defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale in town for another year.

One added wrinkle to Culley's promotion is that the Ravens are set to be rewarded with multiple third-round picks in upcoming drafts as a result of the NFL's diversity hiring initiatives. Culley is the second minority candidate to be hired this cycle and is the first African-American. The picks will be compensatory picks in each of the next two drafts, a boost to the team's draft capital.

Culley is very well-respected among his peers and the players he works with and the Texans are certainly hoping his people skills will help bridge the gap between the organization and its star quarterback, Deshaun Watson.
