Before the Nationals hosted the Mets in Game 1 of a split doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, fans at Nationals Park got to witness something they'd never seen before. They got to see a real life superhero toss out the first pitch.
Matteo Lambert, an 11-year-old Nationals fan from Vienna, Virginia, was recognized for his heroic work with Off the Charts, a nonprofit that helps comfort and empower children with cancer through the leadership of their peers.

He stepped on the mound wearing the cape he has worn in each of the 35 races he's run since founding the Off the Charts Club in 2019. Each race he has sported the name and photo of a child battling cancer, and on Saturday he wore the cape in honor of Xavier, a seven-year-old child fighting stage 3 kidney cancer.
As founder and CHO (Chief Happiness Officer) of Off the Charts, Matteo has helped raise nearly $100,000 in support of pediatric cancer causes.
He continues to show the world how big his heart is and on Saturday we learned he's got quite an arm to go with it.
