Kingsbury: Watching Washington's defense 'gives you anxiety' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
As the Washington Football Team begins to prepare for its Week 2 contest versus the Arizona Cardinals, the team knows it has a tough matchup to get ready for in rising star quarterback Kyler Murray.
But, on the other hand, as Arizona looks at the tape from Washington's Week 1 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cardinals know they have a challenging matchup against the relentless Football Team defensive line.
On a conference call with Washington reporters on Tuesday, Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury admitted that watching Chase Young, Ryan Kerrigan and the rest of that defensive line wreak havoc against Philadelphia "gives you anxiety."
"When you turn on the tape, it definitely gives you anxiety as you watch them harass [Eagles QB] Carson [Wentz]," Kingsbury said.
Kingsbury is not wrong. Washington sacked Wentz eight times in Week 1, the most the Eagles quarterback has ever suffered in his career.
After Philadelphia scored a quick 17 points to begin the contest, Washington held them in check for the rest of the afternoon. Philadelphia would not score a point the rest of the game, as Washington rolled off 27 unanswered for a 10-point divisional victory.
When Kingsbury was asked what impressed him the most when watching Washington play, he stated the team's "relentless effort."
"Obviously there are some freak athletes over there with Chase, Montez [Sweat] and then Ryan, his motor and relentless style of play is contagious," Kingsbury said. "They just wreak havoc the entire game when you watch that...It's just a fantastic group that really plays hard."
Fortunately for Kingsbury, he has a quarterback in Murray that is a lot more mobile than Wentz. In Arizona's Week 1 victory over San Francisco, Murray rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, proving he's just as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm.
Arizona will need Murray to bring his A-game versus Washington's defense on Sunday if the Cardinals hope to begin the 2020 season 2-0.
