How to Watch D.C. United Vs. New York City FC

How to watch D.C. United vs. NYCFC originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

There's not much going right for D.C. United of late -- or this entire season. A 69th minute Atlanta United goal on Sunday secured a 3-2 loss for the Black and Red, pushing their losing streak to four consecutive games and their winless streak to six contests.

D.C. United, therefore, remains in the mire of MLS standings, with the lowest point total (22) in the league and the worst goal differential (-28) by ten goals. Wayne Rooney's tenure as manager is off to a rough start.

The Screaming Eagles are at home on Wednesday to take on New York City FC in a battle against the third-ranked team in the East. Here's how to watch:

D.C. UNITED vs. NYCFC: WHAT TO WATCH

If D.C. United loses to NYCFC on Wednesday, they will have gone the entire month of August without a win. To combat that prospect, the solution is simple yet difficult: score at least two goals over a team that has a +17 goal differential.

NYCFC has dropped to third in the Eastern Conference after sustaining losses to Columbus, Inter Miami, Charlotte, and Orlando since the beginning of August. They're keen on progressing up the ladder as the playoffs come closer, so mitigating a forceful attack that includes Valentin Castellanos and Gabriel Pereira will be of chief importance for D.C. on Wednesday.

D.C. United must also overcome their own goal-scoring drought. They did well in putting two on the board in Sunday's loss to Atlanta, but before that the squad had gone five games without scoring two or more goals in a contest. Can they break through NYCFC's stout back line?

D.C. UNITED vs. NYCFC: PLAYERS TO WATCH

Taxichara Fountas, Forward, D.C. United (11 goals, 3 assists in 20 appearances): Fountas made clear he is deserving of D.C. United's only All-Star nod this season as he paces the team in goals. However, he's on a dry streak as he hasn't found the back of the net in his last seven appearances.

Valentin Castellanos, Forward, NYCFC (13 goals, 2 assists in 17 appearances): Castellanos is NYCFC's best scorer and one of their most efficient playmakers up front. Unlike Fountas, he's been on a torrid streak of late, putting up six goals and one assist in his last five games.
