Evgeny Kuznetsov Takes High-Stick to Face… From the Red Wings' Trainer?

Kuznetsov takes high-stick to face... from the Red Wings' trainer? originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Well…we haven’t seen this before.

Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov took a stick to the face in the third period of Washington’s 3-2 overtime loss to Detroit on Wednesday night. High sticks are common. The circumstances of this high stick were not.

Kuznetsov was gliding down the dasher boards past both benches on one knee. When Kuznetsov was passing by Detroit’s bench, one of the Red Wings’ trainers tried to pass a stick to Dylan Larkin, who was defending Kuznetsov and lost his stick earlier in the play.

Luckily for Washington, Kuznetsov was largely unharmed and was able to make it back onto the ice for his next shift. Unfortunately, the Capitals were unable to keep the 2-0 lead they had earlier in the game and lost the contest after Larkin, the Red Wing involved in the Kuznetsov sequence, netted the game-winner in overtime.

It was Washington’s third overtime loss of the season as the team dropped to 4-0-3 so far this year. Still, they sit atop the Metropolitan Division with 11 points.
