Cowboys Get Opportunity to Scout Ravens for Week 13 Matchup in Real Time

Cowboys get real-time opportunity to scout Ravens for Week 13 originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Coming off its most lopsided loss of the season in a 35-point drubbing against the Washington Football Team on Thanksgiving, Dallas will get a chance to see how a former Washington quarterback will fare for the Ravens, their next opponent.

That'll be Baltimore backup quarterback Robert Griffin III, who is filling in for the reserve/COVID-19 listed Lamar Jackson. For a game that's been postponed three times in the past week due to a coronavirus outbreak within the Ravens organization, Dallas will get a chance to scout their Week 13 matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

On a midweek practice day that was originally supposed to be a simple walkthrough the day before the initially scheduled Thursday game, the Cowboys will gather while following NFL protocols in their practice facility The Star to watch the 3:45 p.m. game live on NBC.

It's an unusual way to have a team film session in preparation for a Tuesday night game against Baltimore on Dec. 8. Like most things in 2020, though, coach Mike McCarthy told ESPN the team is taking it in stride.

"To be able to watch them play live, I think will be a little benefit if we did it together," McCarthy said. "I thought it's a unique opportunity. We've all watched Monday night games before, but rarely do you get to watch a game live after you're two days into your preparation."

It won't be how many times the defense blitzes or how often the Ravens run the ball that McCarthy will be looking out for. Instead, the thing Dallas will pay attention to most: What personnel the depleted Baltimore utilizes.

"You're going to attack your opponent from a similar platform, but utilization of personnel is really the question that we'll obviously look at today when they play Pittsburgh," McCarthy said. "But I feel like our personnel department has done a really good job trying to track the personnel of who may be next week and so forth. That's really what the big question will be as we move forward."
