Wizards fans are back.

On Wednesday, Capital One Arena welcomed its hometown basketball fans to a Wizards game for the first time since the coronavirus forced the NBA to pause its season March 2020. Before taking the court to face the Golden State Warriors, Wizards guard Bradley Beal said a few words to the fans.

“This is our first game back,” Beal said. “We want to first thank you all for coming out tonight. I want to welcome you all. It’s been a crazy year, we know COVID has been striking us like crazy but we wanted to thank you all for coming out tonight. We know it’s a small step forward but it’s a step, nonetheless. So thank you all, hope you all enjoy tonight. Remember to mask up, stay safe, let’s go Wiz.”

The game marked the first chance for players such as Russell Westbrook, Daniel Gafford and Robin Lopez to play in front of the Wizards faithful. Though they only have six home games left on the schedule after Wednesday, the Wizards are hoping to buy a few more by making it into the playoffs with a strong finish to the regular season.
