Alex Ovechkin Leaves Game Vs. Maple Leafs With Upper-Body Injury

Ovechkin leaves game vs. Maple Leafs with upper-body injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The scariest sight in the world for the Capitals happened Sunday night when captain Alex Ovechkin left the game against the Leafs in the third period with an upper-body injury.

The team announced shortly thereafter he would not return to the game.

Ovechkin was on a breakaway attempt when he lost the puck and was tripped down by Leafs netminder Erik Kallgren, who was attempting a poke check. Ovechkin immediately grabbed his left side and stayed down in the corner for a few moments before skating on his own power back to the bench. En route, he appeared to favor his left shoulder.

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs set to begin next week, the Capitals will anxiously await further injury news on the team’s 50-goal scorer.
