Robert Griffin was as cool as the other side of the pillow (or a cucumber, whichever you prefer) Thursday in the Redskins' Thanksgiving victory over the Cowboys, throwing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns in his first game back in Texas as a professional.
Coach Mike Shanahan, however, opted to use a different "cool' reference to describe RGIII after the game.
“You know, he’s kind of like Cool Hand Luke,” he said. “He doesn’t get too upset about anything. He just handles himself, and goes about his business, and works extremely hard to prepare for a game. And he knows how to avoid distractions, because he focuses on his job, and doesn’t seem to let anything bother him. And that’s why he has the success that he has, because he is very disciplined, and very determined, and he works at it.”
One slight problem about that reference: Griffin had no idea who Cool Hand Luke is.
“He must be pretty cool,” Griffin said when asked if he had heard of Paul Newman's character in the 1967 film of the same name. “I don’t know who that is."
If you ask me, RGIII is a natural-born world-shaker, but what we have here is a failure to communicate.
