Lawmakers Take On Lobbyists (on the Ice)

Annual event benefits D.C. hockey rink

They will not give the Capitals a run for their money, but some local hockey players will grab their sticks and skates for an annual competition on the ice.

The catch: some of these players are lobbyists and others are lawmakers.

Itโ€™s the 2010 Congressional Hockey Challenge. The game takes place March 9, and money raised benefits the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club.  Hopefully some of the well-paid lobbyists and lawmakers will also think about giving some cash to the rink, which could be forced to close temporarily this summer if it can't come up with $250,000 to cover a budget gap.

According to Politico, Sen. John Kerry leads the lawmakersโ€™ team, but they may have an ace in the hole. Apparently, Rep. Mike Quigley is no stranger to the rink. He said he has had 300 stitches due to hockey-related injuries.
