Redskins D Shuts Down Black and Silver

Ganther makes most of opportunity

The Redskins did what the Pittsburgh Steelers couldn't -- find a way to stop the seemingly unstoppable Bruce Gradkowski.

The Skins knocked the Raiders QB out of the game with a knee injury in the final seconds of the first half, forcing JaMarcus Russell into action. Well, it was more like a lack of action for the former No. 1 pick, as the Redskins defense swarmed the immobile QB in the second half to breeze to a 34-13 win.

Russell was sacked six times in the second half and was picked off once, leaving little to the imagination as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

While the Redskins defense took control on Sunday, there were more bright spots for the offense. Jason Campbell led several quality drives (when he wasn't on his back on the soggy Oakland turf), Fred Davis made several big catches and Quinton Ganther made the most of his opportunity to start an NFL game.

Ganther helped the Skins pull away in the second half with two 1-yard TD runs. He finished the game with 50 yards on 14 carries.

Campbell followed up a career day last week against the Saints with another strong outing, going 16 of 28 for 222 yards and two touchdowns to Davis, who caught three balls on the day for 50 yards.

The Redskins now can play the role of spoiler the rest of the season, with three games against playoff-contending teams. Up next are the Giants and then the Cowboys, who are battling it out for the top spot in the division with the Eagles.
