Godzilla Returns: Kolzig Comes Back to Verizon Center

Caps take on Bolts for 1st time this season

Olie Kolzig will walk into the Verizon Center Monday night, just like he has done for more than a decade.

But instead of heading into the Washington Capitals locker room, he'll suit up for the opposing team, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The former Capitals goaltender signed with the Bolts as a free agent this summer.  He was drafted by the Capitals in the first round of the 1989(!) draft and became the face of the franchise for a number of years and was a staple in the community.

He holds 12 Capitals goaltending records:  most seasons (16), most games (711), most minutes (41,259), most wins (301), most losses (293), most ties (63), most shutouts (35), most goals against (1,860), highest save percentage (.906), most shots faced (19,873), most saves made (18,013) and most assists (17).
