O'Malley Issues Push-Up Challenge to McDonnell

Think anything will come of this? In an interview Monday on WTOP, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley challenged Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell to a push-up contest.

During the WTOP interview, O'Malley was asked if he would debate McDonnell on-air if the radio station could get them both in.

"I will," O'Malley said. "We can have a discussion about how we can work together to create jobs and opportunity now, and it could be followed immediately by a push-up contest," he quipped.

Through communications director Tucker Martin, McDonnell's camp fired back with quite the no-nonsense response:

"What a nice offer. Governor O’Malley sure seems to always be thinking, and talking, about us," Martin's statement said. "Frankly though, it’s going to be a little difficult to find the time to debate the Governor right now. We’re just so busy helping the thousands of former Maryland residents who have recently moved to Virginia get situated. Also, we already kind of have our own, gubernatorial, version of a push-up contest. It’s called state unemployment rates. Spoiler alert: Virginia wins."

Buuuurn.

At this point, we're guessing that push-up contest will never come to pass.
