"Black Swan" starlet Natalie Portman said the lesbian sex scene in the dark thriller was added to entice movie-goers to go see the film.
The brunette beauty who shared a steamy sex scene with sultry co-star Mula Kunis in the dark Darren Aronofsky film based on the ballet classic "Swan Lake" said the racy romp helped drive men to go see the movie.
"Everyone was so worried about who was going to want to see this movie," Portman told Entertainment Weekly. "I remember them being like, 'How do you get guys to a ballet movie' And the answer is a lesbian scene. Everyone wants to see that."
Portman, whose performance in the film has generated Oscar buzz, said her role as overworked perfectionist Nina Sayers, a ballerina who becomes increasingly unhinged throughout the film, became overwhelming at times, according to People.
"There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die," Portman said. "It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down."
