Pistorius Cleared of Murder, Verdict to Continue Friday

A South African judge cleared Oscar Pistorius of murder on Thursday, but said he was "negligent" in the killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, raising the possibility that the double-amputee will be convicted of culpable homicide, which is similar to a manslaughter charge in the U.S. Judge Thokozile Masipa adjourned the court until Friday without handing down the final verdict. After ruling out that Pistorius' actions were premeditated, Masipa said the Olympian could not be found guilty of the lesser charge of murder. The "Blade Runner" had claimed that he acted in self-defense in gunning down Steenkamp at his home on Valentine's Day last year because he mistook her for an intruder.
