A central Florida mother charged with fatally shooting her teenage daughter has rejected a plea deal that would have given her 30 years in prison and says she wants a tougher sentence.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Sujatha Guduru said Wednesday during a hearing in Sanford that she would plead guilty only if she were allowed to spend the rest of her life in prison.
Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation and return to court in March.
Last year, she had asked for the death penalty, but a judge, a prosecutor and her defense attorney said that was not possible.
Her attorney, Brian Bieber, said after the hearing that she was feeling a tremendous amount of remorse and guilt.
Prosecutors say she fatally shot her daughter, Chetana, in 2014.
