Virginians can now register to vote or update their voter information online.
The State Board of Elections and the Department of Motor Vehicles launched the online voter registration initiative Tuesday. A link can be found at www.SBE.Virginia.gov.
To complete the application process online, citizens must provide their DMV customer identifier number, which appears on driver's licenses or DMV-issued identification cards. Residents who don't have either of those documents can still apply online but will be required to print and return the completed application to their local voter registrar's office.
The 2013 General Assembly passed legislation authorizing online registration. Board of Elections Secretary Don Palmer says it will improve the accuracy and integrity of the voter rolls, resulting in fewer problems on election day.
