Leaders of the University of Virginia's Faculty Senate have formally registered their disapproval with the Board of Visitors and its ouster of President Teresa Sullivan.
The executive council on Thursday held an emergency meeting to adopt a formal resolution that expresses strong support of Sullivan, who has agreed to step down Aug. 15. The resolution also expresses the group's “lack of confidence” in Rector Helen Dragas, Vice Rector Mark J. Kington and the Board of Visitors.
The resolution states that it was made “in the best interests of the university and the commonwealth.”
An email left Thursday for Dragas wasn't immediately returned.
The Faculty Senate has asked the board to more clearly explain its decision. Dragas has agreed to meet with Faculty Senate members, but no date has been set.
