UMD Police Arrest 6 for Duke Victory Celebration

University of Maryland police arrested six students last week for rowdy behavior on campus after the school beat Duke March 3.

Police served warrants to six students on charges including riot, disorderly conduct, destruction of property, arson and disturbing the peace, University of Maryland Department of Public Safety spokesman Paul Dillon said.

Authorities reviewed surveillance and online videos and interviewed witnesses, Dillon said.

Last week's arrests were separate from the 28 students initially arrested by Prince George's County police at off-campus festivities, according to Dillon.

The county is investigating a video showing officers hitting 21-year-old John McKenna with batons. Several officers were suspended and a second student has accused police of brutality during that celebration.

Campus police did not use any force that night and didn't get complaints about officer conduct, Dillon said.
