An explosion at a Forestville strip mall sent nine people to area hospitals Thursday afternoon. Before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Prince George's County Fire and Rescue received a report about a gas leak at the Penn Mar shopping center in the 3400 block of Donnell Drive. Within about 20 minutes of their arrival at the scene, firefighters had evacuated the strip mall and an explosion occurred in one of the stores, causing significant damage to the mall, according to fire department spokesman Mark Brady.(

Channel 11 News learned Thursday that police are investigating a death threat made against Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. Police told Channel 11's Marc Willis that a 17-year-old in Chambersburg, Pa. posted the threat on an NHL Web site on Wednesday. Chambersburg is located about three hours east of Pittsburgh. The teen posted that he was going to kill Ovechkin and said he didn't care if he had to go to jail, police said. (WPXI)

Unwed, single, teenage mom Bristol Palin was being lauded on talk shows Wednesday -- National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy -- for encouraging other teenagers to abstain from sex. Meanwhile, Carrie Prejean (Miss California) was defending her title -- and her advocacy of "traditional marriage" -- because of sensual and revealing photographs taken of her when she was a teenage model. I'm confused. Are we in favor of teenage sexuality or not? Are we OK using teenagers to model lingerie until they become public figures? Are we not OK with unwed teenage moms until they admit their mistakes on national TV? (On Faith)

H Street Country Club, a bar and restaurant outfitted with games such as indoor miniature golf and shuffleboard, is set to open in the last week of May. In the Atlas District near Union Station, the 6,700-square-foot bilevel space has an industrial look with exposed brick walls and concrete floors. The ground level is home to a vintage Art Deco-style bar with 25 stools and a 15-seat lounge area called the Locker Room and furnished with wooden benches. Beyond the bar there are two shuffleboard tables, two pool tables, two ski ball machines, and an open kitchen where cooking classes will be held. A small private dining room off the kitchen seats 12.
