A teenage boy was stabbed Tuesday morning inside a bathroom at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Northwest in D.C., police say.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in the attack, police say.
The victim, a 15-year-old, was unconscious but breathing, according to D.C. police. He was stabbed about 10:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of Kansas Avenue NW, in the Petworth neighborhood.
A student told News4 his classmates were scared and confused during the 2-hour lockdown.
The victim's condition Tuesday night was described as serious but stable.
"Young people gotta find a different way to resolve their disputes," Police Chief Peter Newsham said.
"We take the safety of our students very seriously," a letter released by the school read. "We are saddened by this event, and we know this singular incident is not reflective of our community and our values."
