Stretch of Rock Creek Parkway Near Kennedy Center Back Open

A busy section of Rock Creek Parkway near the Kennedy Center is back open ahead of schedule after closing to drivers, bikers and pedestrians for most of the weekend.

Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway between Virginia Avenue Northwest and the Interstate 66/Potomac River Freeway interchange behind the Lincoln Memorial closed Thursday night.

The road wasn't expected to reopen until Tuesday at 5:30 a.m., but it opened by 6 p.m. Sunday.

Crews brought in equipment for a new pedestrian bridge over Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway.

The Kennedy Center says the bridge will open in September and allow pedestrian access between the National Mall, the Kennedy Center and the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.
