Man Wounded Trying to Intervene in Phone Robbery on Metro

A man was injured trying to intervene in an apparent cell phone robbery on Metro Wednesday afternoon, police say.

According to Metro Police, the incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. when a person was robbed of their cell phone at L'Enfant Metro Station.

The suspect then boarded an Orange Line train toward New Carrolton, where police say another passenger tried to intervene.

That passenger received a "puncture wound" to the hand and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

"Several witnesses, as well as the victim, identified the suspect, a 19-year-old [man]," Metro spokeman Dan Stessel said. "We had two trains that were held at Federal Center SW for about 20 minutes for the police investigation. They've both been taken out of service."

The suspect was taken into custody when he attempted to board abother train.

Expect residual delays on Orange, Silver and Blue lines.
