Soldier to Be Laid to Rest at Arlington Wednesday

A military police officer killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan is being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Funeral services for 25-year-old Army Sgt. Brian L. Walker will be held Wednesday.

Walker, of Lucerne Valley, Calif., was one of two military policemen who died in Afghanistan in May 2012 when a vehicle he was commanding hit a roadside bomb.

Three other soldiers were wounded when the vehicle hit the bomb in Khost Province, Afghanistan.

Walker joined the Army in August 2007 and was assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. He had previously served in Afghanistan for a year.

He leaves behind a wife, Cpl. Ashley Walker, who also served in Afghanistan. They had hoped to have a child after they finished their deployments, reported the Los Angeles Times.

"It was just such a loss," said Walker's pastor, Rev. Gary Schlenz, in May, according to the Los Angeles Times. "He obviously had so much to live for, and he was living life well. He was the kind of kid who would make the most of whatever opportunity he had."
