After a messy snow system that prompted many school delays and closures, expect continued rain through the weekend, including freezing rain in the Shenandoah Valley.
A snowstorm that rolled over the D.C. area in the early morning hours began moving out before sunrise — But still spelled trouble for the morning commute. Maryland and Virginia police responded to at least six crashes, one fatal, on the Beltway before sunrise.

You'll likely have few troubles driving on main roads in the D.C. area Friday as temperatures stay above freezing, in the high 30s. The afternoon and evening are forecast to be rainy.
If you're traveling in the Shenandoah Valley, prepare for dangerous road conditions.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for counties in higher elevations including Allegany, Clarke and Shenandoah counties. Up to 0.2 inches of ice accumulation is possible.

Isolated rain showers are possible Saturday.
Then there's an 80 percent chance of rain starting late Sunday afternoon or evening. Snow is forecast to the north and west, with between 2-5 inches possible.
After that, we are looking at an unseasonable start to March, with bitter cold Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and highs in the 30s Monday through Thursday. The temperature might not reach freezing in parts of the region Wednesday.

The unseasonable start kicked off March 1 as snow blanketed grassy areas and made roads wet and slippery in areas overnight and before sunrise, with a coating to an inch forecast in the D.C. area and 1-3 inches farther north.
Several area schools announced closures or delayed openings due to the winter weather.
Public schools in Arlington, Fauquier County and Prince William County are closed Friday due to the weather.
Frederick County Public Schools opened two hours late, and a scheduled early dismissal has been canceled. A teacher work session scheduled for Friday afternoon will be switched to the morning, with teachers given the option to work from home.
Public schools in Anne Arundel, Fairfax, Prince George's and Loudoun counties as well as Alexandria, Falls Church, Manassas Park and Manassas cities opened two hours late.
Federal offices in D.C. are open and employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.
