More than 1,800 motorcyclists will be cruising through Leesburg, Va., on August 19 as part of the America's 9/11 Foundation Inc. Motorcycle Ride.
The annual remembrance ride is expected to have its largest turnout ever, according to officials. The ride honors all who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, aftermath and recovery.
The riders will travel from Somerset, Pennsylvania to the Pentagon, then to the site of the World Trade Center over four days.
The riders are expected to enter Loudoun County from Maryland at 2 p.m. The final riders will be entering the county between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
Because of the large number of motorcycles, other motorists wishing to go south on James Monroe Highway (Route 15) will be forced to find alternate routes or experience major delays. Traffic from roads on the east side of Route 15 will still be able to travel north.
A suggested detour from northbound Route 15 would be to take Route 15 north into Maryland, to Route 340 west toward Brunswick to Route 17 south through Brunswick to Route 287 into Loudoun County.
