Woman, Estranged Husband Found Dead in Vehicle Near Fire in Maryland

Police say a Brunswick, Maryland woman and her estranged husband were found shot to death in a car as fire damaged several nearby homes. Authorities say the events are related.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says there is no threat to public safety.

The bodies of 27-year-old Kelly Shortt-Hamilton and 44-year-old Daniel Shortt were found shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday, about three miles west of Brunswick, said Deputy First Class Carly Hose. The car had West Virginia tags, she said.

Shortt-Hamilton lived in one of the damaged homes, said Frederick County Sheriff's Deputy First Class Amanda Hatcher.

The fire was reported at 8:14 a.m.

Brunswick is a town of 6,000 people, about 55 miles west of Baltimore and 40 miles northwest of Washington.
