A couple has been charged with child endangerment in Fauquier County, Virginia, after they left their young son alone while they overdosed on drugs in front of a 7-Eleven, authorities say.
Deputies found Alicia Rae Gribble, 28, unconscious and not breathing in the driver's seat of a Toyota sedan in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on Marsh Road in Bealeton just before midnight on Friday, May 25, the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said.
Gribble and the passenger in the car, 37-year-old Larry Augustus Washington II, appeared to be reacting to an opioid overdose. The deputies took Gribble out of the car and gave her the life-saving opioid antidote Narcan, the sheriff's office said.
While medics treated Gribble and Washington they saw a boy on the sidewalk in front of the store who they later learned was the couple's son.
The Department of Social Services took custody of the child and medics took the couple to a hospital for treatment.
After their treatment Gribble and Washington were arrested.
Gribble has been charged with child endangerment, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
