Pedestrian Killed in Crash Along Georgia Avenue

For the second time in a week, a pedestrian has been killed along Georgia Avenue in Wheaton, Maryland. 

The most recent incident happened just after 4 a.m. Friday in the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive. Police said 41-year-old Mauricio Leonidas Correra was in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue when he was struck.

Correra died at the scene. The driver of the car that hit Correra remained at the scne. 

The investigation into the crash in ongoing.

Georgia Avenue was closed for several hours and has since reopened. 

Earlier this week, 69-year-old Tierno Siradiou Bah was killed just two miles away from Friday's scene. Police say Bah was trying to cross southbound Georgia Avenue between Glenallan Avenue and Urbana Drive Monday night when he was struck.

The driver who hit Bah stayed at the scene.

There have been four pedestrian deaths on Georgia Avenue in the past two weeks.
