Officials: Record Ridership on Capital Bikeshare

Transportation officials in Washington say they recorded record levels of bike ridership on Capital Bikeshare during the first week of Metro's months-long maintenance blitz.

Transportation officials said in a statement Wednesday that Capital Bikeshare had 89,436 users last week. Officials said that's 6 percent higher than a previous record week established during Bike to Work Week in May of 2015.

Officials say the increase in ridership coincides with the introduction of a new fare that allows Bikeshare users to take single bike trips of up to 30 minutes for $2. The new fare was introduced June 4.
