Legendary inauguration announcer and longtime Washingtonian Charlie Brotman will join News4 on Friday during our multi-platform coverage of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.
Brotman has been an announcer at every inauguration parade since President Dwight Eisenhower's second term in the 1950s.
Brotman, 89, said he was looking forward to returning to his post this year, but the Presidential Inauguration Committee emailed him to tell him he would not be the announcer for Friday's ceremonies.
"I picked up a telephone and said, 'Is this email correct?' and they said, 'Yes, sir,'" he told News4.
Brotman has since agreed to join News4's lineup of anchors, reporters and commentators to offer his expertise about past inaugurations.
Be sure to watch News4 on air and online throughout the day on Friday as Jim Vance, Doreen Gentzler and the News4 team report from the inauguration festivities.
