Sweating Yet? Multi-Day Heat Wave Continues for DC Area

The heat wave is expected to last through next week

We hope your air-conditioning is feeling strong. After a period of fairly warm weather, the heat has headed to the next level.

A heat advisory expired at 8 p.m. Thursday after the high temperature reached 98 degrees -- the record for July 14 is 100 -- and the heat index reached 105, Storm Team4 said. Storm Team4 declared Thursday to be a Weather Alert Day.

Several of Hillary Clinton's supporters were treated for heat-related issues at her campaign event in northern Virginia. Volunteers handed out water to people in the crowd. Several people who had to be treated, including a few who had to be taken away in an ambulance.

And this heat wave is planning on staying awhile -- perhaps even another 10 days.

The heat wave is expected to last not only through this week, but through the weekend and well into next week as well. Temperatures will climb into the mid and upper 90s, with plenty of humidity.

During the heat wave, stay inside or in the shade as much as possible, and don't exercise outside. Check on any family members or neighbors who are senior citizens. Make sure your pets have plenty of water. Dress in light, cool clothing and recognize the signs of heat exhaustion.

The heat advisory led to few changes in typical D.C. activities.
