Montgomery County Substitute Teacher Accused of Having Sex With Student

A substitute teacher is accused of preying on a student and having a sexual relationship with her in Montgomery County, Maryland, police said.

Cory Boatman, 27, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse, police said.

Boatman was a substitute teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools and was also the assistant football coach at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, police said.

Police said Boatman had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl who attends Montgomery Blair High School, and he began sending the girl suggestive text messages in early August. The victim told police that later that month, Boatman picked her up from her house and drove her to his house in Wheaton, where they had sex, according to police.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Boatman, and he turned himself in on Friday. He is in police custody.

Police are asking parents of students who may have had contact with Boatman to talk to their children about their interactions with him and call 240-773-5400 if they believe their child was victimized.
