Maryland Woman Shot During Meeting With Man She Met on App

Police are still searching for the man

A meeting between a Takoma Park woman and a man she met online ended in gunfire.

The man shot the woman during an argument at her apartment in the 8300 block of Flower Avenue Thursday night, police said.

Neighbors told News4 they could hear fighting.

"I heard some crashing upstairs, the furniture throwing around. ... It was like a fight. She was trying to get him out," Tami Margolin said.

Margolin said she was visiting her boyfriend who lives right below the apartment where the shooting happened. She said she saw the man run off and jump over a fence.

Takoma Park Police said the victim met the man on a social media app. Investigators would not say which app.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said she heard the victim cry for help. She said she found the woman with a bullet wound in her left shoulder and called police.

"Well, the police were on the phone and, you know, asking questions about her. They wanted to know if she knew the man and she told me ... she had met him online and she didn't know who he was. She didn't have his name. She said all that information was on her phone," the neighbor said.

She said she thought the suspect stole the victim's cellphone.

Police said the suspect is a black man with a medium complexion and a thin build who wears glasses. He has short hair and is about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and dark blue shorts. He is armed with a black and silver handgun.
