A man who was shot several times after he pointed a gun at two police officers has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Prosecutors say that in June 2012, James Jardina, 46, pointed a handgun at a Washington County sheriff's deputy and a Natural Resources Police officer near a park-and-ride lot.
Authorities had been looking for Jardina after his wife reported that he was contemplating suicide.
Jardina, of Myersville, Md., attended a sentencing hearing Tuesday in a wheelchair at Washington County Circuit Court.
He has undergone 13 surgeries for injuries sustained when officers shot him, the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reported.
Jardina pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.
