A man has died after being shot by someone who may have been trying to rob him in Silver Spring Monday evening.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jonathan Lopez, of Brentwood, Maryland.
Police say Lopez was walking with a friend on Piney Branch Road toward Dale Drive when someone came up behind him and shot him in the stomach shortly before 8:25 p.m.
Lopez managed to walk about a half block before collapsing. He was taken to a trauma center in critical condition, where he died early Tuesday morning.
It was a random crime, according to Montgomery County Police.
"We have a witness who was with the victim at the time who has been able to provide us with some information about the suspect and what occurred here tonight," a Montgomery County police officer said Monday night.
It's unclear if anything was taken from the victim.
